Four talented Juniors from Tonbridge Taekwon-Do have recently been selected to represent their country as part of the ITF England Team at the upcoming European ITF Taekwon-Do Championships in Bulgaria and the World ITF Taekwon-Do Championships in Dublin.
They all had to go through a rigorous selection process in Birmingham and once they had been selected they have to commit to attending England squad training sessions at various locations across the country to hone and improve their skills and prepare them for the tough competitions ahead. A lot of time and dedication is needed from them, their coach and their parents to help them realise a dream that some of them have had since they were 8 years old.
The four, George Rowe, Katie Moon, Pete Rickards and Isobel Eason-Warner, all train with Mr Tim Dunn at Tonbridge Taekwon-Do at the Angel Centre at least three times a week. They have been selected to compete as Juniors at the European Championships in April and World Championships in October in Patterns, Sparring, Special Technique and Power they will also be taking part in the team events with other members of the England squad. George, Peter and Katie all attend schools in Tonbridge and all of them have won numerous local, national and international club medals since they started Taekwon-Do and are looking forward to their new challenge in the national team.
They are all trying to raise money to help fund their trips and extra equipment and are helping to organise and run a raffle, sell cakes and fudge and complete 3136 sit ups and press ups. 3136 is the miles from Gatwick to Sofia and back again! There is also a Facebook page to track their progress, Tonbridge TKD Juniors, and a fundraising page, www.youcaring.com/georgeroweisobeleasonwarnerkatiemoonpete-768503, for donations to help the four young stars realise their dream.
